Weights & Measures Laboratories
The International Standard Laboratory is situated at Severs in Paris, where prototype of 1kg and 1m is kept.
India being a member of OILM (Organization of International Legal Metrology) is implementing International Standard Systems (SI) for measurements. We have National Reference Standard Laboratory at New Delhi and the Standards which are kept in the laboratory at New Delhi are to be verified from the International Reference Standards, as prescribed.
Regional Reference Standard Laboratories, are situated at Ahemadabad, Banglore, Bhuwaneshwar and Faridabad. The Reference Standards are to be verified from National Standards, as prescribed.
In every state/UT of India there is a Secondary Standard Laboratory and the Secondary Standards are to be verified from the Regional Reference Standards, as prescribed. Maharashtra State comes under the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory,Ahemadabad.
Working Standard are with Inspector of Legal Metrology the Working Standards are to be verified from the Secondary Standards, as prescribed.
Every commercial Weight and Measure possessed by traders are to be verified and stamped from the Working Standards by the Inspector of Legal Metrology. In this way, the Weights/Measures which are used by traders are verified and stamped are kept in relation with International Standards.
